Range: $75,000 – 85,000 annualized
Schedule: A flexible schedule may be available based on role and department’s needs after 90 days of training.
Summary
The Newsletter Editor develops and produces audience-focused newsletters and alerts that connect our readers with Abridged. This role helps create the daily morning newsletter, leads the launch of new newsletters, expands audience reach across platforms, and uses audience data to strengthen engagement throughout Sacramento, Placer, El Dorado, and Yolo counties. Essential Functions
- Produces daily morning newsletter on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays as part of a shared rotation.
- Leads the setup and launch of 2–3 new newsletters in the coming year, including templates, sign-up flows, launch plans, and coaching the editors and reporters who will write them.
- Support newsletter strategy across the Abridged portfolio, including audience growth, testing, and performance reporting.
- Executes and expands the alerts program across additional platforms for Abridged.
- Tracks and analyzes audience data to offer clear recommendations for the newsroom.
- Exercises editorial judgment consistent with PBS KVIE/Abridged standards.
- Comfortable stepping in to edit and publish stories as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must be mission-driven and passionate about the role of public media.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other technology tools relevant to the position.
- Demonstrates clear, effective, and proactive communication.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and manage time effectively.
- Ability to collaborate and work effectively with diverse stakeholders as part of a team.
- Positively and professionally represents PBS KVIE throughout the community.
- Leverages AI and technology tools to enhance efficiency and effectiveness while maintaining independent judgment and responsibility for the accuracy, originality, integrity, confidentiality, and quality of all work product, in compliance with organizational policies, journalistic ethics, and professional standards.
- Strong news judgment, writing, reporting, and multimedia storytelling skills.
- Hands-on experience with an email or messaging platform (Iterable a plus; Mailchimp, Braze, Klaviyo, or similar welcome).
- Experience understanding analytics and using data to make decisions.
- Strong writing and copy-editing skills; familiarity with AP style and high attention to detail CMS experience (WordPress or similar).
- Experience launching a newsletter or digital product is a strong plus.
- Curiosity about the Sacramento region and a commitment to local news.
Education / Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing, English, related fields, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience working with newsletters, audience research, digital and social platforms in a newsroom.
Special Conditions
- Must have a valid California driver’s license and meet insurance standards.
- Available to work evenings and weekends as needed.
- Local travel required.
