The Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) is one of 58 county offices of education in California. SCOE staff work year-round providing services that complement and supplement those offered by public school districts in Sacramento County. SCOE provides technical assistance, curriculum and instructional support, staff development, financial advice, and oversight to Sacramento County school districts.
Salary and Benefits
Annual salary: $112,152.16
Comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, life, vision, and TSA options
Benefit allowance: $1,023.58 per month for single coverage, $1,698.58 for two-party, or $1898.58 for family coverage
Job Summary
The Legal Executive Assistant (Confidential) provides high-level legal administrative support to SCOE's General Counsel and Associate General Counsel, serving as a key member of the legal department. This confidential position combines paralegal research capabilities with executive-level office management, supporting the legal team in complex litigation, county charter school oversight, employee/employer relations matters, and legal opinion development. The incumbent conducts legal research using online platforms and law libraries, manages office operations, coordinates with courts and government agencies, prepares and files legal documents, and may supervise professional, technical, and clerical staff. This position requires handling highly sensitive and confidential information related to legal matters, negotiations, and employee relations, while managing multiple complex projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications
Candidates must demonstrate, through any combination of education, training, and experience, the ability to perform the duties of this position. Increasingly responsible administrative and legal office management experience is required. A typical qualifying background might include completion of paralegal education and specialized training, though professional experience in a public agency legal setting is highly desirable.
Candidates must possess comprehensive knowledge of legal terminology, legal research methods using online platforms, legal document preparation and citation formats, and court filing procedures. A strong understanding of confidentiality principles relating to legal communications is essential, along with familiarity with the California Education Code, Government Code, Brown Act, and state and federal court systems. The ability to exercise independent analytical judgment, manage budgets, supervise staff, and coordinate multiple complex projects simultaneously is required. Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential, including the ability to prepare legal documents, research reports, and board agenda items with proper legal formatting. Candidates must be able to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds including SCOE administrators, Board members, attorneys, judges, and the public, while maintaining strict confidentiality of all legal and employee relations matters.
