Family Advocate (Bilingual Spanish)

The Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) is seeking a dedicated individual to join our team 
as a Family Advocate (Bilingual Spanish). This position offers a meaningful opportunity to support 
eligible families of children ages 0-5 and early care and education providers, helping connect them 
to vital resources and services that strengthen children's developmental outcomes throughout 
Sacramento County.

SCOE is one of 58 county offices of education in California, providing technical assistance, 
curriculum and instructional support, staff development, financial advice, and oversight to 
Sacramento County school districts.

Salary and Benefits
Hourly rate: $26.43 per hour, with five annual incremental increases up to $33.76 per hour

Bilingual differential: An additional 5% differential is included in the hourly rate for this 
position

Comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, life, and vision, with TSA options 
available 

Benefit allowance: $1,169.58 per month for single coverage, $1,844.58 for two-party coverage, or 
$2,044.58 for family coverage

Length of work year: 8 hours per day, 5 days per week, 180 days per year, from mid-August to 
mid-June

Job Summary
Under general direction of an assigned supervisor, the Family Advocate provides support and 
resource information to eligible families of children ages 0-5 and to early care and education 
providers. In this role, you will serve as a liaison among school districts, community agencies, 
providers, and families; conduct home and community-based visits to assess family needs; facilitate 
referrals for developmental screenings and other comprehensive services; and support families in 
accessing housing, health insurance, public assistance, and other community resources. The Family 
Advocate also assists families with kindergarten transition activities, conducts vision, hearing, 
and developmental screenings, and participates in parent trainings and community outreach events.

Qualifications
Education and Experience: Any combination of education, training, and experience necessary to 
perform the duties of the position; a typical qualifying background would include an associate or 
bachelor's degree in human services, human development, child development, or a related field, 
along with experience working with families in a home or school setting, or social service agency.

Knowledge: Available community resources and services; social services concepts and principles; 
trauma-informed strategies and techniques; terminology of special education, child development, 
developmental milestones, and early childhood education; standard record-keeping systems; 
applicable state and federal codes, laws, and regulations; standard software
applications and video conferencing platforms.

Key Abilities: Interact and communicate effectively with children and adults from different 
cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds; work independently with minimal supervision; communicate 
effectively in oral and written form; react with flexibility and sensitivity to changing situations 
and needs; organize and prioritize work; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships; 
interact with children in the home environment.

Bilingual Certification Requirement
This position requires oral and written proficiency in Spanish. Candidates must demonstrate 
bilingual proficiency prior to being placed on the eligibility list.
