SUMMARY:Lavender Heights Rainbow Crosswalk Project
DESCRIPTION:To make a tax-deductible donation to the Lavender Heights Rainbow Crosswalks\, click HERE!\n\nThe Sacramento Rainbow Chamber Foundation has launched a community fundraising campaign to install rainbow-striped crosswalks at the intersection of 20th and K streets\, the heart of what Chamber and community leaders hope will be designated the Lavender Heights district in Midtown Sacramento. The Foundation\, a 501(c)3 non-profit affiliate of the Sacramento Rainbow Chamber of Commerce\, established a Lavender Heights Project bank account to receive tax-deductible donations\, opening the account with the first $500 donation.\n\nThe Midtown Business Association\, which supports the crosswalk project\, will help with securing of city permits\, obtaining a contractor\, and follow-up maintenance. Cost of installing the crosswalks is projected at about $35\,000. To date\, more than $24\,000 has been raised.\n\nTo donate to the Lavender Heights crosswalk project\, checks should be made payable to Lavender Heights Project and mailed to Rainbow Chamber Foundation\, P.O. Box 160126\, Sacramento\, CA 95816. Donations may also be made online.\n\nDonations are tax deductible\, and all donors will receive a letter of acknowledgement for tax purposes.\n\n"The Lavender Heights area has been a part of the Sacramento community since the mid-'70s\, and it is well overdue to have it officially named\, as a welcoming community of Sacramento\," said Rainbow Chamber President Paul Weubbe. "In addition to creating an attraction for local business and boosting tourism\, a designated Lavender Heights district is a way of sharing the history and culture of Sacramento's LGBT community with future generations\, a key mission of the Rainbow Chamber Foundation."\n\nLGBT activists and civic leaders are working with the office of Sacramento City Councilmember Steve Hansen to brand the Lavender Heights district\, historically home to many gay clubs and LGBT organizations\, similarly to other designated areas such as the Handle District\, Alkali Flats and Mansion Heights. The proposed boundaries of the Lavender Heights zone would be I Street on the north\, N Street on the south\, 19th Street on the west and 21st Street on the east.
